Kayaking, Nature, and Wildlife on South Puget Sound
|
Located just 30min from Olympia and convenient to the Olympic Peninsula, Hope Island remains one of the best places to kayak in the area. The protected waters that surround the island offer the opportunity to see seals, sea lions, porpoise, eagles, and all the amazing creatures living just below the surface. Once on the island, you'll have time to explore the various trails, old growth forests, or picnic under the historic fruit trees. On those bluebird days take in the views of both the Olympics and Mt Rainier! |

Should I Choose a Single Kayak or Tandem (2-person) Kayak?
We are one of the few companies on Puget Sound that offers the choice between single & tandem kayaks. We provide touring kayaks (sea kayaks) for all of our trips. They tend to be narrower and sleeker than recreational kayaks. Our tandems are very stable, fast, and a lot of fun to paddle with a partner. They are long enough that each person can paddle at their own pace and steering is controlled by a rudder. They are great for novices, experienced kayakers, and people who may not be as active as they once were. If you prefer to paddle a single kayak you should be relatively active and have a good sense of balance. The possibility of capsizing in a single is greater and the paddler should be able to reenter the kayak in the water with the assistance of a guide.
