South Sound Kayak Tours strives to provide a safe and comfortable kayaking experience for everyone. Whether you are new to kayaking or a more experienced paddler, we want to make sure you enjoy your time on the water. We have listed some of our most frequently asked questions below. Please don't hesitate to give us a call if you still need answers.
What should I bring with me?
In general, pack light. You should bring water and (snacks if desired). You are welcome to use a dry bag for car keys and cell phones.
What should I wear?
Layers of synthetic clothing are best (avoid cotton). We recommend shoes that you don't mind getting wet and will be comfortable on rocky beaches. A light rain jacket is always a good idea in the PNW and a hat for those sunny Summer days! You can always leave a change of clothes in your car as well as a towel.
What if I don't have any experience?
No experience is required. If you are relatively active and comfortable with a couple of hours of outdoor activity you should be fine. Our tours are not designed to be strenuous and instruction will be provided by your guide.
What if I can't swim?
Knowing how to swim is not required, all guests are required to wear a Life Jacket (PFD) which will be provided.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes, we do use touring kayaks that have a more confined cockpit (about 36 inches long x 20 inches wide). The recommended weight capacity is 250lbs per person for tandem (2-person) kayaks & 240lbs for single kayaks. You should also be comfortable getting yourself from a sitting on the ground to standing position without assistance.
What about bad weather?
Tours will continue rain or shine. If high winds are forecasted or any other weather that would create unsafe conditions then tours will be cancelled and fully refunded with as much notice as possible.
Can I bring my pet?
As much as we love our furry friends, unfortunately they are not allowed on tours due to a variety of safety concerns.
